NEW E-BOOK: "SNACK ATTACK, the ultimate guide to planning balanced kids' snacks, every day!"

Banana energy balls

Snacks, the eternal headache! We always want to make our (constantly hungry) children healthy and nutritious snacks that are good for their health, easy to take with us for a stroll, and of course, easy to make! So, here’s one such recipe! Banana and tahini energy balls, ready in 10 minutes, gluten-free, vegan, and sugar-free. And we can take them with us in reusable snack bags, from the innovative elfarmakeio.gr. So, what do you think? Will you try the banana energy balls?

What we are going to need

  • Bananas. Obviously! Ripe bananas are sweet and delicious. Below, I give you the quantity you’ll need in grams, which for me was 3 small, peeled bananas.
  • Tahini. I use whole-grain tahini, but you can also use peanut butter, which, believe me, creates an excellent combination.
  • Chia seeds. Help make the recipe bind, and it’s a tiny superfood. The chia seeds don’t need soaking, as you often ask. Alternatively, you can use ground flaxseeds in the same quantity.
  • Oat flakes. As you can see in the pictures as well, I used both large oat flakes and small ones. I happened to have those on the day I shot the photographs. The large flakes aren’t easy to process in the food processor. You can make the banana energy balls just with the small ones.
  • Sweetener. Optional. White petimezi or honey.
  • Walnuts
  • Spices. Cinnamon and nutmeg, as I wanted the balls to resemble banana bread

Tips

  • You can store the banana energy balls in the fridge for up to 3 days, but you can keep them in the freezer as well, for a few months.
  • The recipe can easily be transformed into no-bake banana bars. Instead of forming into little balls, place the mixture into a small oven pan lined with parchment paper, and place it in the fridge. After two to three hours, cut it into pieces.
  • If you prefer, you can cover the banana energy balls with melted chocolate, or you can add chocolate chips inside them.
  • After forming the balls, place them in the fridge for 2–3 hours, to thicken up. You can also enjoy them right away.

How to take the banana energy balls with you on your stroll

At elfarmakeio.gr, you can find these beautiful, ecological snack bags, which can be used to easily transport the banana energy balls. Of course, at Elfarmakeio, you can also find things related to baby and child nutrition, like food boxes, water bottles, plates, spoons, and everything else you might need. You’ll also find educational toys (like the wooden alphabet depicted in the photograph), our beloved Mama Irene Pasta, organic drinks, and other high-quality, innovative products related to child care, as well as the whole family.

How the little hands can help

  • Our little assistants can pick and peel the bananas, but they can also mash them before we place them in the food processor.
  • They can add the ingredients (which you’ve already prepared, weighed, and placed in front of them).
  • Older children can read the recipe or weigh the ingredients themselves.
  • Their favourite activity, though, will be to form the energy balls. Allow them to do it and have fun.
  • Of course, we’ll tidy up the kitchen together afterwards.
