Schools have started once again, we have grown tired of sweets, and the best way to start the year is with a savoury snack that’s a staple of our diet! The little hands love breadsticks, and he loves cheese as well, and these cheese breadsticks were missing from the Little Hands archive. They’re whole-wheat breadsticks, crunchy and delicious, and a perfect idea for children’s parties. And, since it seems that I’m dreaming of parties, I used my Epson EcoTank to print and make the perfect buckets to serve within a buffet. You’re all invited to this “party” to try them out, and we’ll have a special guest, Usain Bolt, who’s the official taster of Epson’s Cooking Project. If you can’t make it to the party, then continue reading, since you’ll find the whole recipe below!
What we are going to need
- Flour. We’ll need whole-grain flour for a more nutritious result.
- Cheese. I made these breadsticks with grated kefalotyri, but I’ve also made them with gouda-type cheese, and the result was great with both.
- Olive oil.
- Spices. Sweet paprika, oregano, and thyme, to give their flavour and aroma to the cheese breadsticks.
- Vinegar. To make them crunchy!
Tips
- The dosages below make about 28–30 cheese breadsticks, to cover a large baking sheet.
- The thinner you make your breadsticks, the crunchier they’ll be. If you make them thick, they’ll need to be baked for longer.
- Every oven is different, so adjust the baking time.
- They may seem soft when you take them out of the oven, but when they’ll cool down, they’ll be crunchier.
- Store in a glass jar or glass food box for 4–5 days.
How to offer cheese breadsticks?
As I wrote above, with the help of my new Epson EcoTank printer, instead of using cartridges, it uses a large ink tank that you can fill yourself with the ink bottles included in the packaging. That way, you can have an unrivalled cost per page, saving up to 90% in ink costs. How to take advantage of it at only some times? That’s why I found the printable popcorn buckets in various designs, and with their instructions, I thought it would be a great idea to offer cheese breadsticks, but also spend some creative quality time with the little hands doing arts and crafts.
How the little hands can help
- Older children can weigh the ingredients while younger ones should be given the ingredients pre-weighed so they can add them.
- Ask them to separate the ingredients into liquids and solids.
- Shop together for everything you need.
- The little hands will love mixing the ingredients.
- But what they’ll love even more will be shaping the cheese breadsticks. They may form them into long and thin sticks, make them into rings, or anything they like. Give them the freedom and see that their imagination will create the most beautiful cheese breadsticks ever.
- Older children can prepare the buckets themselves, according to the instructions on Epson’s page.
