The easiest apple muffins for little hands

Delicious and fluffy

Apple is one of the most favourite fruits of children and adults. It’s a sweet, nutritious, aromatic, and amazing addition to both sweet and savory foods. It can be pureed and used anywhere, just like it was used in these fluffy, delicious, and easy apple muffins, which are suitable for infants over the age of 6 months old. Is there anything else you need to know about these muffins? They have no sugar or other sweetener, no butter, and in one and a half days we had eaten all of them and loved them. To love them yourselves, you just have to see the recipe.

How to offer apple to babies—BLW

Apple is the scariest fruit for parents following the baby-led weaning method, and not without reason, as it’s hard and can be a choking hazard. This, however, doesn’t mean that you can’t offer it safely. You’ll find 4 ways below to avoid excluding apple from your little ones’ diet, thus offering them all the vitamins and trace elements that it contains. It’s important to remember that its season is autumn, it’s always good to select organic apples, and their skin often has a high concentration of pesticides.

  1. Grated apple. Place a little mound in front of your little one and allow them to explore it. This way is good for children over the age of 6 months old. Grated apple, unfortunately, wasn’t good enough for the little hands to grab and try.
  2. Apple puree. Boil the apple for 10–12 minutes and then mash in a blender. Offer in preloaded spoons, from 6 months old.
  3. Cooked apple. After slicing the apple thinly, bake, boil, or steam it. Any way you use it, you can add a little cinnamon and let them enjoy it as they want.
  4. Inside a preparation. These apple muffins, or the fluffy apple pancakes, or the aromatic apple balls, or the amazing apple bites are some perfect suggestions.

What we are going to need

  • Apple puree. It’s very easy to make and I explain the whole process here, too. You’ll need to peel and dice a large apple. Then, you boil it for 10–12 minutes, which should be enough to soften it and release its sweetness and aroma. Then, you strain it and process it in the food processor or blender. Let it cool down before using the puree to make the apple muffins.
  • Eggs. 2 organic or free-range eggs.
  • Yogurt. I use yogurt from sheep’s milk, but you can use anything you have in the house and prefer using.
  • Lemon. I love the combination of apple and lemon. I think they’re great together and that one highlights the other. In every recipe I use apple, I’ll use lemon almost automatically, as well. Here, I used lemon juice, but if you like it, you can use some zest, as long as the lemon is unwaxed.
  • Emmer flour. One of this recipe’s core ingredients. It’s more nutritious with less gluten, a great alternative to white flour. Also, you can use flour from “Zeas” wheat. I suggest you sift it for a finer result. Alternatively, you can use all-purpose flour.
  • Oat flakes. There’s no need to grind them, add the flakes to the mixture as they are. I don’t suggest making the recipe using only oats, though, because the mixture will dry up.
  • Cinnamon. Besides the combination of apple and lemon, I also love the combination of cinnamon and apple, so cinnamon couldn’t be missing from the apple muffins. I usually prefer using Ceylon cinnamon.
  • Silicone muffin moulds.

Serving suggestion

Cut the muffins lengthwise, spread almond butter (especially with cocoa), and close like a sandwich. Now, close your eyes and enjoy it, like it should be enjoyed! The little hands were very excited by this combination.

How the little hands can help

  • They can wash the apples and, depending on their age, peel them with a peeler.
  • Allow them to puree the apples.
  • They can add the ingredients to the mixing bowl, and of course, mix them.
  • Give them a large spoon and ask them to transfer the mixture to the muffin moulds.
  • Finally, allow them to decorate the muffins by adding oat flakes or diced apple, or anything else they’d like.
  • Of course, don’t forget to include them in the cleaning process while the muffins are being baked.

Tips and storage

  • To see if your muffins are ready, insert a toothpick or a knife inside one of them. If it emerges clean, the apple muffins are ready. If it’s still wet, then let them cook for a little more time.
  • The ingredients make 12 muffins, but it depends on the size of your moulds.
  • Store in the fridge for 3–4 days.
  • Prefer the silicone muffin moulds. If you use a tray, you’ll need to oil and flour it first, unless it’s a silicone tray.
