Multigrain beetroot crackers

Ideal for the whole family

You simply must try these crackers! They’re nutritious, healthy, easy, and pink! The ideal snack for the little and older hands, and the first time we made them they vanished in half a day; the little hands especially wanted them for dinner as well! Ever since then, they’re our favourite and we make them very, very often. SEE THE RECIPE for the beetroot crackers.

Having snacks in your house for a child is quite a challenge. I usually try making snacks 2 times a week, about 1 to 2 snacks each time, so we have 3 or 4 snacks for the week. This is quite hard by itself, so I try to make them as easy and as quickly as I can. Just like these amazing beetroot crackers.

But instead of quick, these crackers are also nutritious, not only because they contain beetroot, but mainly because they contain superfoods like flaxseeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, and poppy seeds. These tiny super seeds are rich in plant fibres, proteins, and iron and offer unlimited benefits to our health with their precious and nutritious ingredients.

Additionally, they’re gluten-free (as long as you get gluten-free oats), dairy-free, egg-free, and of course sugar-free! So, what else should I write to get you to make them? In short, they’re a snack suitable for everyone, from children 9 months old to people 109 years old; excellent for school, the office, the stroll, the trip, for everything and everywhere.

Let’s see what you’ll need to make them in detail

  • Oat flakes, will be processed through a food processor.
  • Chia seeds, this miraculous little seed that’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids and can be eaten raw as well as cooked, and we try to have it on our plates every day.
  • Poppy seeds, because they aren’t only for garnish, though you can use them for that as well.
  • Sunflower seeds, can be added whole, ground in a mortar, or processed in a food processor.
  • Ground flaxseeds. If it’s not ground already, you can grind them yourselves.
  • Sesame, can be used inside the cracker as well.
  • Olive oil, needs no introduction.
  • Oregano or another herb of your choice. It gives the flavour and aroma that the crackers need.
  • And of course, beetroot, which should be boiled or steamed first.

05/05/2020 update: Our favourite crackers were made with spinach as well as zucchini! Both attempts were crowned with success! For the spinach version, we replaced the spinach with 100 gr of raw spinach and added a little thyme. For the zucchini version, replace beetroot with 3 small raw zucchinis, about 150 grams. The process is otherwise the same.
